Layering 101

This season I am all about big, long layers.  This week is one of the first weeks that is going to really feel like fall, the first thing I did when I woke up this morning was pull my boots out of their summer hibernation.  This look is an unexpected combination but comes together for the perfect fall outfit.  First of all, this fringe skirt is basically what every other skirt dreams of being.  I paired a boxy sweater over the skirt, since the skirt has a long and more fitted silhouette this allowed for the outfit to maintain shape. You can still achieve a boho-inspired, layered look without completely losing your shape!  I decided to embrace my (lack of) height for once and wear flats.  It is so difficult to find a flattering pair of flats, but these one do the trick!  I can't wait to share more of my layering tricks with you all season.

Boy Meets Girl: A/W 15

Over the summer I got to work with a brand I have been following for a very long time.  Keeping this exciting project a secret was traumatic so I am thrilled to share it with you today!  My mom first introduced me to Boy Meets Girl many years ago and I fell in love with their charming logo.  I had a black hoodie with a gold BMG logo that I seemed to include in most of my outfits. When I was approached to shoot with BMG I jumped at the chance, like I literally responded in less than a minute.  The BMG A/W collection is perfect for the "girl on the go" who is fun, fearless, and always looks effortless.  BMG is about connections, collaborations, and stories, and finding inspiration in the everyday moments.  You can preorder the collection from their website (here) or shop the collection at Nordstrom starting next week.
Big love and thanks again to Boy Meets Girl! Get your preorder on now!

Lime and Mermaid

I love when I discover a new brand that is doing everything right.  So, I am super excited to share my latest find, Lime and Vine.  Lime and Vine is filled with sporty-chic pieces that will instantly up your street style game.  Their fall collection is filled with relaxed fits and super chic silhouettes to make you feel like its always the weekend.  I paired my Lime and Vine pants with a black and white, sports bra to keep the sporty and monochromatic look, then paired with a blazer and heel to up the chic level.  I love the "moto" style detailing and the black accents.  Turning sweats into a wearable (and not lazy) daytime look is so simple, its one of my goto school looks.  How do you style your sweats?

GIVEAWAY! Once you make your Lime and Vine purchase email to be entered to win the backpack I'm wearing in this post!

Laced Up: Vintage Jumpsuit

So, I know I just finished talking about how everyone should own a vintage jumpsuit, well I'm back.  Vintage jumpsuits might become a mini-series on Mermaid Waves, because I am not stopping now.  This criss-cross lace-up detail is everywhere this season, from the body suit to the dress.  Bonus points if your lace-up piece is suede because I'm obsessed. Suede is making a huge comeback this season and it deserves it.  Since this jumpsuit is vintage and all mine, I put together a collection of my favorite lace-up pieces at the bottom of this post.

Necklace is hand painted by See Rue.

Mauve Mood.

I love finding pieces that are equally confusing and amazing.  This chiffon, kimono, jumpsuit, from Genuine People is exactly that.  This piece made me feel very uncomfortable, because like what even is it, but I also felt like a total goddess.  Since I could never give up pink; dusty rose, mauve and taupe are some of my favorite colors for fall fashion.  Its a great way to have a neutral look, without wearing neutrals.  Since I wanted the jumpsuit to take centerstage I finished off the look with a matching shoe and a fun necklace.  What are some of your favorite "out-there" pieces.

Mermaid's Story

I am about to list a lot of important things you should know about so get ready to google.  Over the weekend I got to meet not one but two of my fashion idols, Iris Apfel (watch her documentary "Iris" on Netflix) and Donald Robertson (follow him @drawbertson on Instagram), at Story.  You should also be looking up Story, the current story is all about Donald.  For Donald's Story, Story teamed up with Bow and Drape to allow shoppers to customize tees and sweatshirts using patches illustrated by Donald himself!  I created this look around this tee, each patch is super feminine yet edgy, so I paired feminine silhouettes with edgy details.  Scroll down for patch details.  I chose this mint skirt to bring out the mint in one of the patches, by just simply using color you can bring out the tiniest details of any look.
